Volunteers distribute Host Community Benefits survey in Kekaha

KEKAHA, HI – June 17, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Following a successful recruitment by a local community organization E Ola Mau Na Leo O Kekaha, volunteers have begun the task of going house-to-house to distribute the Host Community Benefits survey (HCB) to every household in Kekaha.

Kekaha residents are urged to participate in the survey, which is being conducted by the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) for the Kekaha HCB program.

The results of the survey will be used to develop recommendations for the expenditure of the $650,000 appropriated last year by the County Council as a form of compensation for the upcoming expansion of the Kekaha Landfill.

To ensure that all Kekaha residents and property owners receive the survey, a mass mailing of the survey was also done. However, only one survey per household should be turned in.

The deadline for returning the survey is Wednesday, July 8.

“For households that have more than one person, a group consensus should be taken to determine which five priorities should be indicated on the survey,” said Jose Bulatao, CAC vice chair and coordinator of the house-to-house effort.

The survey asks residents to select their top five priorities from a list of 24 projects that could be pursued with the funding.

Some of the choices are: drug awareness programs; improvements to the Mana drag strip; beautification projects; a scholarship fund; and the creation of a revolving loan/grant fund for small business development.

There is also space in the survey for the respondent to write-in a project that’s not on the list.
