WAILUKU, Maui, Hawai`i – June 19, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The Maui County Hazard Mitigation Planning Steering Committee invites Maui County residents to participate in reviewing the draft County-wide Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) at a community meeting on Wednesday, June 24, 2015. The meeting will be held from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. in the Cameron Center meeting room, located at 95 Mahalani Street, Wailuku.
Staff will be available to present key components of the draft 2015 HMP and to answer questions. Additionally, personal preparedness information will be provided and available to take home.
Maui County is in the process of updating its 2010 Hazard Mitigation Plan to ensure eligibility for future mitigation funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This detailed plan addresses a variety of potential natural hazards that could affect some or all of the county’s residents.
Background information on the update of the 2010 plan is available online at the Maui County Hazard Mitigation Planning website at www.mauicounty.gov/Hazard. The entire draft 2015 HMP will be available for the public to download on June 23, 2015.
“Most people like to think they’re prepared for any emergency, but I would encourage everyone to take a few minutes to test their knowledge of the hazards and risks identified in the plan,” said Emergency Management Officer, Anna Foust. “We’re seeking input from the public on anything that may need to be added or amended, and inviting residents to assess whether they have an accurate picture of how prepared they really need to be for any of these disasters. We need everyone’s help so the County can take the best action to protect life and property.”
Any questions or comments regarding this process are encouraged and should be directed to Anna Foust at Maui County Civil Defense Agency, ph. (808) 270-7285 or via email to civil.defense (at) mauicounty (dot) gov.
