The Real Estate Commission will convene its standing committee meetings at the Hawaii Island REALTORS® office, on Wednesday, June 8, 2016. A home built by students in the Hawai‘i Community College (HawCC) Model Home Program was dedicated today in the Hawaiian homestead community of Keaukaha. Hawaiian Home Lands beneficiary Elton “Tui” Suganuma is the new owner of the three-bedroom, two-bath home in Keaukaha, Hilo, Hawaiʻi. Elton was joined at the home dedication ceremony by his wife Patricia, and his son Poʻai, who along with his growing ʻohana will call this place home.

U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded $3,000,000 in new funding from the National Housing Trust Fund to Hawai‘i for the development and preservation of affordable rental housing. The funding will be available only to households with incomes at or below 30 percent of area median income and will be allocated through the Hawai‘i Housing Finance and Development Corporation (HHFDC).

Hawaii’s Congressional Delegation announced that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a $20,000,000 grant to the University of Hawaii System for a clean water research project. The project, titled Ike Wai from the Hawaiian words for knowledge and water, will address the critical needs of the state to maintain its supply of clean water, most of which comes from groundwater sources.

the Senate Appropriations Committee advanced the Fiscal Year 2017 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill, legislation that will provide key funding for programs to support Native Hawaiian housing and address homelessness. The Department of Housing and Human Concerns’ Immigrant Services Division announced that completed ballots for the Philippine National Elections may be dropped off at the Maui County Business Resource Center (MCBRC) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016. The MCBRC is located at Maui Mall in Kahului, across Pizza Hut, at 70 E. Kaahumanu Ave., Unit B-9

The Department of Water Supply is repairing a mainline break in Maalaea, fronting the Maui Electric Maalaea Power Plant on North Kihei Road. The Department is asking that all residents and businesses in the area conserve water and avoid any unnecessary water use until 12:00 noon today
