The Real Estate Commission will convene its standing committee meetings at the Grove Farm Building – Conference Room, 3-1850 Kaumualii Hwy., Lihue, on Wednesday, September 14, 2016. The Laws and Rules Review Committee meeting will convene at 9:30 a.m., and will be followed by the Condominium Review Committee meeting and the Education Review Committee meeting
DOI DEADLINE NEARS FOR INPUT ON PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE HHCA
The U.S. Department of the Interior is giving until Monday, August 29, 2016, to provide input regarding Act 173, a state law proposing to amend the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1920 (HHCA) by permitting the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) to lease by direct negotiation and at fair market rents, and for a term not to exceed five years, any improvements on Hawaiian home lands, or portions thereof, that are owned or controlled by the DHHL.

IGE PUSHES TO EXPAND SOLAR POWER TO RENTERS
Gov. David Ige said Tuesday he wants Hawaii to deploy more community solar projects — which give those renting or living in condominiums access to renewable energy — by 2018. Speaking at the eighth annual Hawaii Clean Energy Day at the Laniakea YWCA, Ige said he wants the solar option to be available for all Hawaii residents.

GOVERNOR’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE: GOVERNOR IGE ANNOUNCES ALLOCATION OF $12M FOR HOMELESSNESS EFFORT
Gov. David Ige has announced that $12M in funding will be focused on the most visible and chronically homeless people in Hawai‘i. The appropriation, provided by the Hawai‘i State Legislature during the regular session, was appropriated to the Department of Human Services (DHS) with the flexibility for DHS to allocate. “We know that addressing homelessness is a priority for Hawai‘i,” said Gov. Ige. “We wanted people to understand the framework that guides both DHS and our homelessness efforts.”
2017 DHHL LEGISLATIVE PACKAGE – PROPOSED LEGISLATIVE ACTION REQUEST
Every year, the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands prepares and submits legislative proposals for inclusion in the Governor’s Administrative Package for the next session of the Hawaii State Legislature. For the 2017 package, the department is soliciting recommendations from beneficiaries and the general public for consideration in our legislative package. The deadline for proposals is August 10, 2016.

Governor extends emergency homeless proclamation
Gov. David Y. Ige today signed a fifth supplemental proclamation on homelessness, which will remain in effect until August of this year. The supplemental proclamation provides an additional 60 days in which to continue the state’s cross-sector collaboration and coordinated efforts with the counties.
County Issues Request for Proposals for Animal Enforcement, Spay/Neuter Programs
The County of Maui Department of Housing and Human Concerns (DHHC) announced it is soliciting grant proposals for the County of Maui Animal Management Programs’ Animal Enforcement and/or Spay/Neuter Programs from any for-profit organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Hawaii, or a nonprofit organization determined to be exempt from federal income tax by the Internal Revenue Service
2016 Outstanding Older Americans Awards Announced
The County of Maui Dept. of Housing and Human Concerns, Office on Aging, announced the winners of Maui County’s 48th Annual Outstanding Older American Male and Female of Maui County. The awards program was held on Friday, May 13 at the Kahili Golf Course’s Nahele Ballroom in Waikapu to recognize Maui County elders for their extraordinary efforts and contributions to society. This year’s winners were John Tryggestad and Kathleen Phillips.
