Flash flood watch cancelled (4:30 p.m.)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 28, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — The National Weather Service has cancelled the flash flood watch for the island of Kaua’i as the heavy rainfall is moving eastward.

Homeowners who sustained damages to their properties due to the weather are encouraged to contact the American Red Cross Līhu’e office at 808-245-4919.

One lane of Kūhi‘ō Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge is now open, and traffic in the area is being controlled by police officers.

Hanalei Elementary School is now closed as a holding area.

A water conservation request issued by the Department of Water earlier today for Hanalei residents is continuing as a precautionary measure to allow for the refilling of the Hanalei water tank.
Green waste is still not being accepted at all refuse transfer stations except for Hanapēpē. Additionally, the Kapa‘a transfer station is not accepting scrap metal and appliances. For updates, please contact Nick Lum at 212-4683.
