LĪHU’E, HI – June 2, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) —  – In an effort to prepare residents for home ownership and increase awareness about housing opportunities on the island, the County Housing Agency is partnering with the Kaua’i Board of Realtors on a housing fair scheduled next month.

The free event titled “Home Sweet Home” will be held on Friday, June 17, 1 to 8 pm at the Līhu’e Civic Center, Pi„ikoi Building.

There will be approximately 25 exhibitors at the fair, and workshops on the following topics will be offered including: first-time homebuyer programs; tenants‟ rights in foreclosures; insurance policies for tenants and homeowners; rental property management; Veterans Administration loans; and other housing programs.

In addition, the housing fair will include a tour of Kamāmalu at Kaua’i Lagoons, an affordable housing project located at the entrance to Līhu’e Industrial Park phase II. The tour will be offered from 1 to 3 pm.

“Our goal is to give residents a feeling of hope. We want them to know that despite the economic times we‟re in, there are people they can turn to for help with their housing needs,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. “We are pleased that the Kaua’i Board of Realtors has joined us in this effort once again.”

“Our mission statement is very similar to the County Housing Agency,” said Michael Olsen, president of the Kaua’i Board of Realtors. “We felt that it makes perfect sense for KBR to collaborate with the county and assist the community with their housing needs.” For more information about the housing fair or to request an auxiliary aid or additional support to attend the fair, please contact Shelley Teraoka at 241-4418 at least five days before the event.
