Homeless Initiative Bills and Budget Amendment Sent to County Council
As part of Maui County's ongoing efforts to address issues and concerns related to the homeless community, Mayor Alan Arakawa transmitted five bills and a budget amendment to the Maui County Council last week.
Hawaii Part of Multi-State Agreement to Stop Unsupported Mortgage Fees
The state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs’ (DCCA) Division of Financial Institutions (DFI) participated in an agreement in late November with all 50 state mortgage regulators and Prospect Mortgage, LLC to send a message on the practice of charging unsupported and improperly disclosed fees to borrowers

South Maui Community Park Playground to Close Three Days for Renovation
The County of Maui Dept. of Parks and Recreation announced that the South Maui Community Park Playground and upper parking area will be closed for renovations from Monday, Nov. 16 through Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 6 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; the parking lot only will open after 4 p.m.
HANALEI STREAM RESTORATION PROJECT IS COMPLETED
Yesterday, under gray skies, Jade Waialeale Battad stood on the rain soaked stream bank, recently planted with hundreds of native plants, and blessed the state-sponsored project. Nine taro farmers, their families, local and state political leaders, engineers and construction workers joined in the commemoration of the end of work.

2015 HOUSING PLANNING STUDY GATHERING DATA
The Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation (HHFDC) is partnering with SMS Research to conduct a phone survey to gather data on housing supply and demand. The phone survey began the week of October 19 and will be taken over the next 3 months.

Scott Morishige, Governor David Ige’s coordinator on homelessness, announced today that a total of 48 people who had been living in Kaka‘ako (including eight families, three couples and five singles) have moved into shelter in the past week. Individuals and families were primarily placed at the Institute for Human Services, Next Step Shelter and the Lighthouse Emergency Shelter.

HAWAI‘I HISTORIC PLACES REVIEW BOARD ADDS 12 PROPERTIES TO HAWAI‘I REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
The Hawai‘i Historic Places Review Board has added 12 properties to the Hawai‘i Register of Historic Places. Properties are eligible for inclusion in the register because of their association with broad patterns or events, or individuals important in the history of Hawai‘i. They are usually significant in architecture and design, are likely to yield important information, and their features retain their qualifying integrity.

The County of Maui Department of Housing and Human Concerns, Immigrant Services Division, announced that the public is invited to reserve an appointment during the Philippine Consulate Mobile Outreach on Maui this weekend, Saturday, Oct. 3 and Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015. The outreach will provide on-island services for Philippine Passport Renewal, Dual Citizenship and Authentication.
Hirono & Boozman Introduce Legislation To Keep Veterans Housing Programs Alive
Senators Mazie K. Hirono and John Boozman (R-AR), members of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, introduced legislation Thursday to authorize federal homeless veteran programs for the next fiscal year. The Keeping Our Commitment to Ending Veteran Homelessness Act would reauthorize seven Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Labor programs for the next fiscal year.
