WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 12, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Representative Colleen Hanabusa (HI-01), member of the House Armed Services Committee, announced that Hawaii will be receiving more than $2 million in grant awards from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to help homeless and at-risk veterans.

“It is a national travesty to see these brave men and women, who once wore the uniform to serve our country, homeless and on the streets,” said Hanabusa. “We as a country must do all we can to honor their service and provide them with the support they need to transition back to civilian life. These grants will help Catholic Charities Hawaii and the U.S. Veterans Initiative provide our at-risk veterans and their families with housing assistance and VA services, including mental health care, and rapidly re-house those who have recently fallen into homelessness. I would like to thank the Department of Veterans Affairs for their unwavering commitment to addressing this troubling issue.”

Catholic Charities Hawaii will be receiving $1,108,224 and the United States Veterans Initiative will be receiving $1,017,000.

These grants are part of the VA’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. For more information, click here: http://www.va.gov/homeless/ssvf.asp
