Disaster tax relief available to qualified real property owners

LĪHU‘E – November 20, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Property owners who sustained damages to their real property as a result of the recent flood disaster may be eligible for disaster tax relief.

Claims can be made on damages that resulted directly from flood waters overflowing the
banks or walls of a nearby river or stream.

Damages due to insufficient drainage, run-off, or ponding, along with personal and other non-structural property including crops are not eligible.

Claim forms are available on the county website, www.kauai.gov and at the Real

Property Tax office located in the Kapulē Building at the Līhu’e Civic Center.

The deadline to file a claim for disaster tax relief is January 14, 2010 or within 60 days of the disaster.
