Department of Water’s cost of power adjustment rate to increase

-

LĪHU’E, HI – June 24, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — County officials announced an increase in the Department of Water’s cost of power adjustment charge effective July 1.

The increase, $0.03 per thousand gallons, will cover the energy costs incurred during the past fiscal year that were higher than the energy cost allowance in the water rates.

In the future, if energy costs decrease, the cost of power adjustment may result in a decrease in water rates.

Energy costs are a significant percentage of the department’s annual expenses. Last year, energy costs came to $2.9 million or 17 percent of operating costs, while the department’s water sales revenue totaled $17.2 million.

All of the Department of Water’s revenues are obtained from water sales, not from real property taxes or the county’s general fund.

For more information, please call the Department of Water at 245-5455 during normal business hours, 7:45 am to 4:30 pm.
