Congresswoman Hirono Statement on the Awarding of $2.8 million in Federal Support for Hawaii HIV/AIDS Programs
Washington, DC – April 3, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawaii) released the following statement regarding the awarding of $2,831,127 in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant funding in support of housing and service programs that assist patients living with HIV/AIDS in Hawaii.
Organizations receiving funding from the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) competitive grant program are as follows:
– Maui AIDS Foundation $1,440,477
– The Gregory House Programs (Oahu) $1,390,650
“As researchers continue their efforts to find a cure, investments in organizations such as the Maui AIDS Foundation and Gregory House Programs remain critical to helping those who have contracted HIV,” said Congresswoman Hirono. “These outstanding local organizations provide their clients the counseling, training, and housing stability they need. Knowing the Maui AIDS Foundation’s reputation and having met Gregory House’s leadership, I understand the tireless passion of our local advocates and the difference they make in the lives of so many.
