Senate Appropriations Committee Approves Key Funding For Homelessness Programs And Native Hawaiian Housing

the Senate Appropriations Committee advanced the Fiscal Year 2017 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill, legislation that will provide key funding for programs to support Native Hawaiian housing and address homelessness. U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and Housing and Urban Development, worked to ensure more homeless assistance funds go to states with a greater need for housing resources.

County Business Center to Receive Overseas Absentee Ballots Saturday for Philippine Elections

The Department of Housing and Human Concerns’ Immigrant Services Division announced that completed ballots for the Philippine National Elections may be dropped off at the Maui County Business Resource Center (MCBRC) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016. The MCBRC is located at Maui Mall in Kahului, across Pizza Hut, at 70 E. Kaahumanu Ave., Unit B-9

Water Mainline Break in Maalaea

The Department of Water Supply is repairing a mainline break in Maalaea, fronting the Maui Electric Maalaea Power Plant on North Kihei Road. The Department is asking that all residents and businesses in the area conserve water and avoid any unnecessary water use until 12:00 noon today

Service Line Repair on Main Street, Wailuku

Governor David Ige announced his administration’s proposal to amend DHHL’s operating budget request for fiscal year 2017 from $9.6 million to $23.5 million in general funding, $17.8 million provided directly to DHHL and $5.7 million to Budget & Finance to cover fringe benefits for DHHL employees. The Governor’s message also included a recommended level of $17.1 million in general funds to reimburse DHHL for administrative and operating expenses paid in FY 16, the current fiscal year, with departmental resources including special and trust funds. This comes following a court order to make sufficient sums available to DHHL for its administrative and operating expenses.

Governor proposes highest level of funding ever for Department of Hawaiian Home Lands

Gov. David Ige is proposing a funding plan that is consistent with the State Constitution requirement to provide sufficient funding for administrative and operating expenses for the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (article XII, section 1).

HECO WANTS TO BUILD SMART GRID

Hawaiian Electric Co. asked the state Thursday to approve a $340 million smart-grid system that would improve reliability, allow for increased use of renewable energy sources and give customers more control over their electrical use.

The Building Industry Association of Hawaii (BIA-Hawaii) will present a new level of recognition with the premier of the “BIA Awards in Construction Excellence,” (ACE) featuring the winners of the 31st Annual BIA Renaissance Building & Remodeling Awards and 58th Annual Parade of Homes Awards. The new “ACE Gala” dinner will be held at The Modern Honolulu on October 5, 2016. These premier statewide competitions are open to all residential and commercial projects that have not been previously entered in a BIA Renaissance Building & Remodeling or Parade of Homes Awards competition.
