Residential household hazardous waste collection set for April 11-12

Green waste service at Hanalei transfer station to close to accommodate collection

WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 1, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — County officials announced that its free bi-annual household hazardous waste (HHW) collection for residents is scheduled next week.

Among the items that will be accepted include automotive products, lead-acid batteries, lawn and garden products, oil-based paints, thinners and stains, fluorescent lights, batteries and more.

The collection will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following locations:

 Hanalei refuse transfer station, 5-3751 Kūhiō Highway – Saturday, April 11
 Kapa‘a Baseyard, 4900 Kahau Road – Saturday, April 11
 Hanapēpē refuse transfer station, 4380 Lēlē Road – Sunday, April 12
 Līhu‘e refuse transfer station, 3450 Ahukini Road – Sunday, April 12

To accommodate the HHW collection, the green waste service at the Hanalei transfer station will be closed on Saturday, April 11.
No commercial or farm waste will be accepted.

Latex paint will not be accepted as well since it is not considered household hazardous waste.

For instructions on how to dispose of latex paints or how to dispose of HHW items on your own, as well as a list of acceptable HHW items, please call the Recycling Office at 241-4841 or visit the county website, www.kauai.gov/hhw
