GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $2.7 MILLION FOR ACCESSIBILITY IMPROVEMENTS AT STATE PARKS AND RECREATIONAL AREAS
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $2.7 million for the design and construction of public accessibility improvements at state Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) recreational areas and facilities throughout Hawai‘i.
“State parks and recreational areas provide residents and visitors with places where they can hike, fish and explore the outdoors, or simply relax,” said Governor Lingle. “These improvements will ensure that more people are able to enjoy Hawai‘i’s beautiful natural environment.”
The projects are part of the Administration’s ongoing efforts to improve state parks and small boat harbors and include renovations to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Construction is scheduled to be completed by December 2009.
The following locations will receive accessibility upgrades:

Lapakahi State Historical Park
Hilo Division of Forestry and Wildlife baseyard office
Keanakolu bunkhouse and ranger cabin
Kekaha Kai State Park
Kalōpā State Park
Maui
Mā‘alaea Small Boat Harbor
Mokulē‘ia shoreline access
Kaua‘i
Pine Forest Drive
Nounou trail parking
Wailuā River State Park Old Smith’s Landing
Waimea State Recreation Pier
Ahukini Recreation Pier State Park
O‘ahu
