Fire causes $400,000 in damages to Hanapepe building

HANAPEPE – December 2, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — A two-story commercial building located on Awawa Road in Hanapepe sustained major damage from a fire this morning.

No one was in the building at the time. No injuries were reported.

The flames were confined to the first floor entrance lobby, but the heat and smoke damage, especially on the first floor, where Hanapepe Naturals: Health Food and Spa is housed, was extensive. The second floor business, Kulture Tattoo, sustained some smoke damage.

The fire broke out at approximately7:46 a.m. Fifteen fire personnel from nine units responded to the alarm along with police officers.

The fire was under control at 8 a.m. and deemed fully extinguished at 8:50 a.m.

Fire officials estimate the damages to the structure and its contents to be $400,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
