-

Wailuku, HI – (RealEstateRama) — The County of Maui Volunteer Center will hold a free workshop titled “Building Community Connections: Unlock Your Volunteer Leader Potential” on Friday, October 21, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary. Volunteer leaders from community organizations and non-profits are invited to attend the workshop.

The workshop will share the keys to taking a volunteer program to the next level, and will feature Mary Lynn Perry, an expert in the field of volunteerism with vast experience in bridging agencies and the communities they serve.

Topics will include building the “service spectrum” (pyramid types of volunteering) into an organization, understanding the value of skills-based volunteering, initiating hands-on projects with real results, planning and organizing done-in-a-day service marathons, creating and managing effective pro bono consulting projects, identifying promising partners, managing and marketing projects, communicating the value of volunteers and their meaningful service, and measuring and celebrating success.

The workshop will also recognize that the following day, October 22, is National Make a Difference Day, one of the largest annual single-days of service nationwide.

Mary Lynn Perry has served as an Education Specialist with the Smithsonian Institution, the Executive Director of Sacramento’s Business Volunteers, and a member of the Leadership Faculty for the Corporate Institute with the Points of Light Foundation. In addition, for the past 13 years, Perry has worked as the Volunteer Coordinator for the City of Sacramento.
