Congresswoman Hirono Hosts First Foreclosure and Fraud Prevention Event
Kapolei, HI – August 22, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawaii) today hosted the first of two free community events titled, “You’re Not Alone: Community Resources for Foreclosure and Fraud Prevention.”
Housing counselors from close to a dozen federal, state, and non-profit agencies gathered at Kapolei Middle School to provide information to homeowners and answer questions.
The next event is set for Saturday, August 27, at Maui Waena Intermediate School in Kahului.
“One thing these service providers made clear today is that anyone delinquent in mortgage payments or at risk of foreclosure should contact one of the five HUD-certified counseling agencies right away for help. They shouldn’t succumb to scams by people promising an easy fix to their foreclosure problems. People facing foreclosure are frustrated, angry, and afraid. They are not alone. By bringing these agencies together today, our hope was to provide some help and information under one roof,” said Congresswoman Hirono.
The five HUD-certified counseling agencies in Hawaii are Credit Counseling Services of Hawaii, Hale Mahaolu Homeownership & Housing Counseling Program, Hawaii Homeownership Center, Hawaiian Community Assets, Inc., and Legal Aid Society of Hawaii.
Today’s event also featured an information session covering topics from the State’s new foreclosure law to suggestions on how to best avoid foreclosure scams.
Future events are being scheduled around the state. Please visit www.hirono.house.gov for the latest updates.
