Upcoming fair to focus on housing opportunities

LĪHU’E, HI – May 13, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) —In an effort to increase awareness about housing opportunities on the island, he Kaua‘i Board of Realtors (KBR) is partnering with the County Housing Agency on the pcoming housing fair.

The two-day event will be held on June 19, 5:30 to 8 pm, and June 20, 9 am to 2 pm, at he Līhu’e Civic Center, Pi‘ikoi Building.

“Our goal is to give residents a feeling of hope. We want them to know that despite the conomic times we’re in, there are people they can turn to for help with their housing needs,” aid Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. “We are pleased that the Kaua’i Board of Realtors has joined s in this effort and is taking the lead in this year’s housing fair.”

The mayor also noted that KBR obtained a grant from the National Association of ealtors to help defray expenses for the event.

“Our mission statement is very similar to the County Housing Agency,” said Karen Ono, xecutive officer of the Kaua’i Board of Realtors. “We felt that it makes perfect sense for us to collaborate and assist the community with their housing needs, and what better time to do this han June, which is recognized as National Homeownership Month.”

With KBR on board, the topics covered at this year’s housing fair will expand to include he following:

How to avoid foreclosure and hold on to your home.

  • Financing options available for potential homebuyers and renters.
  • How to prepare for purchasing or renting affordable housing units that are scheduled for completion over the next few years.
  • How the current fair housing laws affect renters and landlords.
  •  Property management without a licensed real estate agent
